Ruslan Trochinsky is one of the most famous Ukrainians in Estonia. Everyone knows the folklore ensemble “Svjata Vatra” and their catching songs. Ruslan is the lead vocalist of the band. He knows how to make even the coldest crowd to go wild.

Ruslan was born in Ukraine in the mining town Belitskoe. His mother soon realized that her son would never become a miner as he was interested in a totally different things. Unlike many of his peers.

Years of studying in the Ukrainian musical school and Ukrainian National Conservatory have defined his life. In 1997-1999 Ruslan was working in the National musical academy named after P.I. Tchaikovsky. He was playing music in Kiev city wind orchestra from 1998 till 2000. With time the young man had realized that he likes totally different kind of music. This is when the folk music group “Gaidamaki” was created. It was the predecessor of the ensemble “Svjata Vatra”. Perhaps this was the beginning of the story resulting in Ruslan’s coming to Estonia…

Another key milestone in the changing life of the young Ukrainian had become at the Viljandi folk festival “Viljandi Folk”. This extremely popular  Ukrainian ensemble performed under Ruslan’s direction on the festival in Mulgimaa in 2003. Their concert turned out to be so successful that they were invited again for the next concert. Speaking of those times Ruslan had told us that his eyes were set on the charismatic Terje from the very first time he had seen her. She was waiting for them at the airport while being the host of the song and dance festival “Maa ja Ilm” (“World and peace”).  Moreover the Ukrainian singer had realized that this is the place where he found happiness, that is his wife. Ruslan had shared his feelings with a girl at the afterparty which took place after the concert. But the beautiful Estonian girl thought that this popular musician has girlfriends in every city he goes. Therefore in order to win her heart he had to work a lot! Ruslan decided to sing a song for his lady and it finally worked! The young people got married after one of the concerts in Prague on the beautiful bridge.

According to Ruslan right at the same moment when he had put a ring on his wife’s finger  a real shower of rain poured at them. It was unforgettable, because his grandmother once told him that if the rain started during an important event of his life it would be his grandmother’s tears of joy.

The young couple live in Viljandi and they have three children – Rute, Kirke, and Timur. Their son is the youngest and he often says that he misses his Ukrainian grandmother Galina, and her beet-root soup. They all are actually missing this cheerful grandmother Galina because they cannot see her as much as they would like.

Ruslan Trochinsky has made a big contribution in building a bridge between Estonia and Ukrain. Last year he was awarded with the order of a White Star of Category V and is very proud of it. In 2015 “Svjata Vatra” was actively involved in charitable giving in Ukraine. They were delivering warm clothes medicine, and the articles of daily necessity to soldiers. They have also of course gave a concert in Ukraine, and all the money received diverted to serve the needs of immigrants and their children.

Ruslan is very proud of his own children who speak three languages: Ukrainian, Russian, and Estonian. He says that he still needs to polish his own knowledge of Estonian language…

Ruslan also remembered that his children once asked him what is their nationality – Estonian or Ukrainian. He told them that he would be proud if during the trip to Ukrain his children would be worthy Ukrainians, and while living in Estonia they would remain kind and decent Estonians.

Ruslan had also proudly told us that his oldest daughter had made an unusual choice of colors in her clothes for her 1st  day at school in Septemer. It was a mixture of national Estonian and Ukrainian costumes.

Among other Ukrainian objects and customs, the Trochinsky family honors Ukrainian kitchen, and Ruslan gladly cooks at home when he has time. But unfortunately he doesn’t have much of free time and the family of six is trying to spend their time together in a warm and comfortable atmosphere as much as possible.Ruslan Trochinsky is one of the most famous Ukrainians in Estonia.

  • Ruslan Trochynskyi on ilmselt üks Eesti kuulsamaid ukrainlasi.

Ruslan meenutab, kuidas just sõrmuse üleandmise hetkel hakkas kallama tõelist paduvihma.
